How do I change the category for a transaction?

For your budgets to be accurate, you may need to change the category of your transactions.

Wait until a pending transaction has gone through before changing its category. Changes to pending transactions aren't saved.

Select your Mint experience and follow the instructions.

  1. Open the app, scroll down to Recent Transactions, and select See all
  2. Select the transaction you’d like to change
  3. Select Category
  4. Find and select the new category or subcategory you’d like to use
  5. Your changes are automatically saved
  1. Sign in to Mint and select Transactions from the side menu
  2. Choose the transaction you’d like to update and select its existing category
  3. Select the arrows next to the category name
  4. Find and select the new category you’d like to use
  5. Your changes are automatically saved

Existing categories provided by Mint can't be deleted.

If you want Mint to use this category for all future transactions from this merchant, you can create a rule.
